Innovative Adhesive from Indian Institutes: A Bio-Friendly Solution
Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Bhopal and the School of Medical and Allied Sciences in Haryana have created a groundbreaking adhesive with remarkable versatility and biodegradability. This adhesive, temporarily named ‘A30’, boasts the ability to bond materials underwater and has applications ranging from repairing furniture to medical uses.
A30: Healing and Repairing with Biodegradable Glue
The potential of A30 extends into the medical field, where it can seamlessly bind bones and tissues, potentially eliminating the need for sutures and staples, which can be painful. The adhesive could revolutionize drug delivery, making it more efficient. This innovation was detailed in a study published in ‘Chemistry – A European Journal’.
Patented Creation by Prominent Scientists
The research leading to this adhesive was conducted by Professor Aasheesh Srivastava and Dr. Tanmay Dutta from IISER, along with Dr. Aashish Sharma from the School of Medical and Allied Sciences. Their work has been recognized with an Indian patent, solidifying their contribution to the scientific community.
Biodegradable and Biocompatible: A Safe Adhesive Solution
A30 is not just a strong adhesive; it is also safe for use on human tissue, boasting biodegradable and biocompatible properties. This means it breaks down naturally and is not toxic to human tissues. Professor Srivastava highlighted its ability to bind diverse materials such as tissues, bones, eggshells, and wood, in various conditions including air and underwater, all without the need for additional chemicals to initiate the bonding process.
