Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced today that the ‘Muslim League Jammu Kashmir’ has been designated an ‘unlawful association’ under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. This decision comes amid heightened concerns over anti-national and secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

Leadership and Allegations

The ‘Muslim League Jammu Kashmir’ is currently headed by Masarat Alam, serving as the interim chairman of the hardline faction of the All India Hurriyat Conference, previously led by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Amit Shah, in his statement, highlighted the organization’s engagement in activities that are seen as threatening to India’s national security and sovereignty.

Government’s Stance on Anti-National Activities

Amit Shah, in his address, emphasized the government’s firm stance against any actions that undermine India’s unity, sovereignty, and integrity. He conveyed a clear message from the government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, that such activities will be met with strict legal consequences.

Accusations and Official Notification

The Home Ministry’s notification described ‘Muslim League Jammu Kashmir’ as an entity known for its anti-India and pro-Pakistan propaganda. The organization and its leaders, particularly Masarat Alam, have been accused of engaging in activities that compromise the nation’s unity, integrity, security, and communal harmony. The notification also alleges that the organization has been actively involved in raising funds for perpetuating unlawful activities, with sources including Pakistan and its proxy organizations.
