1. Pakistan’s Role in Jammu and Kashmir Questioned
Professor Sajjad Raja, hailing from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) and representing the National Equality Party, recently expressed his views on the long-standing dispute of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized in a post recounting his speech at the British Parliament that Pakistan has no legitimate standing in this conflict.
2. Sajjad Raja’s Statement at the British Parliament
Sajjad Raja made his position clear and unequivocal to the British MPs and attendees. He asserted, “Pakistan is not a legitimate party to the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir.” Raja further stressed that the genuine parties to this conflict are solely the inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir along with India.
3. Addressing Historical Wrongs and Human Rights
Elaborating on the historical aspects and human rights violations, Raja mentioned, “We, the people of Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, continue to endure hardships and are denied basic rights due to the British government’s blunders in 1947.” Drawing a parallel, he questioned the legitimacy of an armed intruder in a parliament room, emphasizing the essence of rights and legitimacy.
Moreover, he expressed a strong plea for basic human rights for the people of POK, advocating for their right to live in peace and enjoy modern-day amenities, similar to those residing in mainland Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
4. Context of Sajjad Raja’s Remarks
The backdrop for these statements was the UK Parliament’s commemoration of Jammu and Kashmir Day, marking the 76th anniversary of the region’s Accession to India on October 26, 1947. Additionally, during the event, Sajjad Raja highlighted the grave injustices faced by Hindus and Sikhs during the partition. He emphatically stated that Pakistan’s aggressive invasion and subsequent occupation of POK in 1947 rendered them an illegitimate party to the Jammu & Kashmir issue.
